The Technical Office of the Consorzio BANCOMAT, which reports to the General Secretary, carries out the following activities in relation to Consortium services:
- definition and management of technical-organizational aspects tied to implementation and update of the cards that offer such services;
- third part consulting;
- certification of the instruments and processes involved in circulation and functioning of the cards that offer such services;
- development and/or management of standards, functional requirements and technical requirements of processes and instruments tied to cards that offesuch services;
- management of security aspects for processes and instruments tied to cards that offer such services, acting as Certification Authority;
- management of problems tied to the infrastructure used by the Italian banking system for processes and instruments tied to cards that offer such services;
- oversight of national migration to the microcircuit, monitoring progress of the process and also following up operating problems, and the technical development of new products.

The Technical Office also refers to third parties to carry out all the aforementioned activities for the various services furnished via debit cards, also relating to foreign or international circuits, comprising in particular international certification activities.

In carrying out the above activities, independence of the Technical Office in relation to the Bodies of the Consortium is assured by a specific Regulation in order to permit protection and segregation of the data relating to these activities from other activities of the Consortium.
